Fireworks, festivities, literature and hula hopping
Fireworks, festivities, literature and hula hopping - here's travelbite.co.uk's somewhat eclectic pick of what's on this weekend, November 6th and 7th:
Yes, it's that time of year again when things start to turn festive. The Thursford Spectacular, England's largest Christmas show, opens on Saturday.
The event brings together Christmas entertainment, dazzling dancers, beautiful costumes, Christmas songs, carols, and outstanding musical performances from the 100-plus cast.
As England's largest Christmas show it is very popular, so booking is a must. Visit the Thursford Spectacular website for more details.
Hula Hoop Hop, Southbank Centre, London
Described by organisers as "the latest craze to take the capital by storm", hula hooping now has a whole event dedicated to it with the Hula Hoop Hop at London's Southbank Centre.">
An ideal rainy day activity for families, the event will include live performances and workshops for all ages and abilities.
Victoria Park fireworks display, London
With so many extravagant firework displays going on up and down the country this weekend we could have filled endless pages here, so we decided to choose one event the team at Travelbite.co.uk have enjoyed in recent years.
This Sunday east London's Victoria Park, the capital's first public park in fact, will play host to the annual Tower Hamlets firework display, courtesy of pyrotechnic specialists Walk the Plank.
Titled 'Remember, Remember', and in commemoration of the seventieth anniversary of the Blitz, the display will be accompanied by a soundtrack reminiscent of the era - and you'll be pleased to know there's no gaudy funfair at this fireworks event.
Books on Tyne, Newcastle
Literature lovers will get the chance to savour the latest releases and talk to their favourite authors as the City Library and Newcastle College play host to Books on Tyne, Newcastle's book festival.
The festival will open at the City Library at 10am on Saturday and will give book lovers and would-be writers some inspiration when John Grundy launches this three day event which will showcase some of the best north-eastern writers and publishers.
Other events include writers' workshops, author talks and a chance to meet representatives of north east-based publishing companies.
Autumn Wildlife fun at Prior Park, Bath
Saturday will also see the opening of Prior Park's Autumn Wildlife season in which the public are invited to take part in organsied wildlife spotter trails.
The 18th-century landscape gardens of Prior Park are renowned in the local area for their beauty, and are teeming with wildlife.
Trails run from 11am to dusk, and at just £1.50 a go they could make an affordable alternative to a bright autumn day walk.
