Acts of Virtue Amid Covid-19
The branch manager of the Indonesian Buddhist Student Association (HIKMAHBUDHI) Tangerang City conducted a series of benevolent movements during April 10-12, 2020 in order to reduce the suffering caused by Covid-19 and its preventive measures.
Starting on April 10, 2020, which coincided with the death of Jesus Christ, the Santa Maria Catholic Church and the Banten Catholic Youth (PK) began their benevolent steps with us and the Tangerang Buddhist Student Family (KBPBT) to collaborate social movements in the form of disinfecting spraying to several RT areas and also a place of interfaith worship.
Then on 11 April 2020 the committee moved again spraying disinfectant to several houses of worship, followed by distributing dozens of masks sent by PP HIKMAHBUDHI to the villages where food vendors lived and divided the team to go directly to the streets to distribute and educate the surrounding community to always use a mask. While walking, another team carried out food packages for those affected, which would be distributed the following day.
The Chairman of the Tangerang City HIKMAHBUDHI PC, Hardi said that his party went down to the neighborhood of residents to distribute aid in the form of masks and groceries, spraying disinfectants to houses of worship and also educating the public to adopt a cleaner and healthier lifestyle.
The Banten Chinese Indonesian Marga Social Association (PSMTI) once again entrusted the committee (HB, PK, KBPBT) to participate in distributing 1000 aid packages to those affected. The distribution of basic food aid in the form of packages containing rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, sugar, biscuits and others was carried out on 12 April 2020.
The sense of care is addressed to mobile food vendors, pedicab drivers, online motorbike taxi, scavengers and other affected general public. The committee shared basic necessities by going around to the houses of residents on the banks of the Cisadane River which continued to the protocol streets in the City of Tangerang.
"We all hope that the Covid-19 outbreak will be resolved soon and community activities can return to normal, the assistance provided is expected to ease the burden on the lives of people affected by the plague," explained Edi Lim, Chairperson of Banten PSMTI accompanied by Secretary of Catholic Youth in Tangerang, Ari Titahelu.
