Vatican City Closes All Catholic Churches in Rome for Corona Virus Dam

The Vatican temporarily closed all Catholic churches throughout Rome to stem the spread of the Corona virus. The papal vicar (official) for Rome says churches will reopen on April 3, 2020.
"As a result, the faithful are freed from their obligations to fulfill the party rules," Cardinal Angelo De Donatis said in a statement as reported by AFP on Friday (3/13/2020).

The Vatican spends days taking drastic action to close places of worship in the religious country. The Vatican also closed its museum and even the Basilica of St. Paul - part of its towering dome designed by Michelangelo - for tourists as the death toll continues to rise.

"This provision is for the common good," De Donatis said.

The Vatican also bans mass throughout the country and cancels all marriages and funerals. But the churches themselves remain open as long as the faithful follow government regulations and remain one meter (three feet) apart when inside.

Previously reported, the leader of the world's Catholics, Pope Francis, encouraged pastors to 'have the courage' to go out and help people infected with the Corona virus. This call was made by Pope Francis after the Italian authorities imposed a lockdown on his entire territory due to the Corona virus outbreak.

"Let's continue to pray together for those who are sick, health workers, so many people are suffering from this epidemic," Pope Francis said at a mass in Vatican City, as reported by AFP and Associated Press, Tuesday (10/3).

"Let us also pray to God, for our pastors, that they will have the courage to go out and visit those who are sick ... and accompany medical staff and volunteers in the work they do," he said.
