The Merry Christmas Parade in Salatiga Indonesia

There were 2,200 participants who wore costumes of various themes and attractions. The moment was held to welcome Christmas in Salatiga City. The festive Christmas titled Christmas Parade took place on Saturday (12/22) in Salatiga.

This parade consists of 31 contingents representing representatives of Christian schools and churches in Salatiga City. Some of them wore Santa Claus costumes, butterflies, traditional clothes from various regions, and red and green Christmas gifts. Some danced to the rhythm of the drum band played by other contingents. They walked through several protocol roads in Salatiga City.

"I am very happy to be involved and to be part of this parade. This program shows, tolerance among religious believers in Salatiga City is indeed great, "said one participant, Yanto, who is a member of the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB) Tamansari, Salatiga. In this carnival event, Yanto and dozens of his fellow colleagues appeared wearing Christmas-themed costumes and some were wearing traditional clothes from various regions.

Meanwhile, the Head of Salatiga Christian Middle School 2 Foundation, Dewi Kurniawati, brought 100 students to take part in the parade. They performed liong, marching band, dancers. According to Dewi, the 2018 Christmas Parade is very good for establishing cooperation with various parties. Moreover, the City of Salatiga is a Toleran City that must be kept peaceful.

"I hope that Indonesia will also get along better, tolerance will be stronger, so that it can live side by side peacefully," he hoped.

Chairperson of the Salatiga Church Cooperation Agency (BKSG), Purwanto, said that the implementation of the Christmas Parade in 2018 further strengthened the City of Salatiga as a tolerant city. "So, it's not just a slogan. We also learn harmoniously from within a church that has congregations of various colors. The hope is that if they get along well in the church they can also get along well with other people and the government, "he said.

On this occasion, the Mayor of Salatiga, Yuliyanto, greatly appreciated the parade held by the BKSG. "Let's welcome Christmas and New Year with a new spirit to build the City of Salatiga together," he said.
